SUMMARY:Reach Out for Nepal Day - 22nd June 2024
DESCRIPTION:A new venue but our annual Reach Out for Nepal Day remains a fixture in our calendar with as ever all funds raised going to support Community Action Nepal’s (CAN) excellent work in Nepal’s Himalayan foothills. In particular this year we are raising funds to help relocate the damaged Lihi Health Post to a safer location on land donated by the village elders. \nThis year Paul’s 10th charity run (final one?) will see him trying to climb Snowdon 6 times via the 6 main walking routes between sunrise (4:49am) & sunset (9:46pm). As ever he would be delighted for any support on the day be it by joining him on a leg or logistical support during the day. If you are able to help simply contact Paul for more details. \nOur ROFN Day itself will be based at our new premises ‘The Siabod @ the Eisteddfa Fishery\, near Criccieth. \nHere Twiggy Price will hold her regular stall selling a variety of Crafts\, Books\, Nepalese artifacts & a variety of the late Doug Scott’s photographic prints. \nOnce again Gaby will be selling her delicious Dal Bhat with all proceeds going to ROFN/CAN. \nThroughout June we will be selling Raffle Tickets with the prize draw being held on 28th July at 4:00 pm. First prize is a photographic print of the Snowdon Horesshoe by John Rowell of the Soul of Snowdonia Gallery\, Second prize is a copy of Paul’s book about his Expedition to Gasherbrum II in the Karakorum. Further prizes to be detailed in the days ahead on our Facebook page. \nWe hope you are able to join us at some point during the day for what is always a relaxed & rewarding day raising money for such a good cause.

DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to confirm that Paul will give a ‘repeat’ of his sell out presentation in January earlier this year this coming Autumn for those who were either unable to attend or un-aware of it first time around. Of course if you attended in January but want to re-live his experiences again please come along too as they’ll be a few new insights too as well as a bit more focused on what kit worked & didn’t. \nWith some of the Pakistani Expedition Members being directly affected by the recent floods after Paul’s return to the U.K. we have decided to set the admission fee a little higher so that we can split ticket proceeds 50/50 between our ROFN Fund & the Pakistani village of Hushe. \nFor those of you who haven’t read Paul’s Blog (you can find them on our blog page by scrolling back to August 2022) covering the trip it is a bit of an ‘epic’ tale (at least for his level of endeavour) & for those who have read the Blogs the images should help put an additional perspective on them. SUMMARY:Reach Out for Nepal Day - 19th August 2023
DESCRIPTION:A day of running at a slow & steady pace with Paul on a variety of routes to suit everyone\, details of these runs will be listed within the next few weeks. The runs will start at sunrise (5:50) & complete by sunset (20:30) so feel free to join him on one or more by simply making a donation of your choice on the day. The runs are (times may vary a little so keep in touch with Paul’s progress as the day moves on):- \n5:50 – Moel Siabod via the Daear Dhu Ridge & descending the race route – Circa 7 miles & Two & a Half Hours\, hopefully with a good sunrise thrown in. \n9:00 – The old road into the Ogwen valley to Little Tryfan before climbing into cwm Tryfan & returning to the Cafe over Y Foel Goch & Cefyn y Capel – circa 11 Miles & 3 Hours. \n12:30 – Llyn Geirionydd & Llyn Crafnant – circa 11 Miles & Two & a Half Hours\, a lovely triple lake outing. \n15:30 – The old road into the Ogwen valley\, then up very steep Ffynnon Lugwy reservoir road before taking the Leat back to Capel returning to the Cafe via the Slate Trail – circa 10 Miles & Two & a Half Hours – The leat is one of those lovely remote spots that Trail/Fell runners seek for splendid isolation making the climb up to it very worth the effort. \n18:30 – The Siabod Junior Race route\, a must for any parents with children (who’ll be eligible for the 2024 race i.e. U.16\, 14 & 12/10 year olds on race day itself) – circa 2 miles & 20/30 minutes. \n19:00 – The Capel Loop\, scene of Paul’s failure to do 100 miles in 24 Hours back in 2020 but still a lovely run when you are only doing it once – circa Three & a Half Miles & One Hour. \nIf you are looking for advice on which run/runs best suit you simply contact Paul before the day itself. \nThroughout the day Twiggy will have a stall selling a variety of crafts\, books as well as CAN (Community Action Nepal) artifacts & photographic prints taken by the late Doug Scott CBE. \nWe will also be selling a variety of Doug Scott’s photographic prints. \nIn the evening at 8:00 pm Mike Lees will put on his fun Quiz & there will be a raffle too. \nOther activities may be added in the coming weeks so watch this space. \nWe hope you can come along to help make the another great success!

DESCRIPTION:A long classic route taking in 6 summits either side of the Llanberis pass including the summit of Snowdon\, experience & navigation skills essential. 28.2K with an impressive 2\,600 metres of ascent. Also option to run the Peris short but be warned you’ll still need navigation skills over this still demanding 13.2K route with 1\,375 metres of ascent. DESCRIPTION:Our fund raising goes on as ever to the late Doug Scott’s charity CAN & it’s great work in supporting rural villages in Nepal. Last year we completed the funding for a new school in Prok.  \nIan Draisey’s Moel Siabod Cycling Sportif (see separate Event listing for details) will be taking place later in the year on 2nd July\, more details on this will be published in the coming months \nAs to our own plans we will hold our ROFN Day earlier than normal on 14th May 2022 this is due to the probability that Paul’s attempt to climb GII in the Karakorum is likely to see him out of action for most of June & all of July. \nA full itinerary of the day is listed below so please put the date in you diary & come along & join in as suits you. \nFriday 13th May:- \nPaul’s run (more details below) starts at sunset (21:05) from the Cafe\, a full copy of his planned schedule will be posted on our Facebook site. \nSaturday 14th May (ROFN Day):- \n8:00 – Cafe opens as normal. \n8:30 – Sara Jackson will be at the Cafe for Face Painting & Glitter Tattoos (Biodegradable) throughout the day. \n09:00 – Mike Lees will lead a Wild Swim in the Afon Lugwy\, meet up at the Cafe. \n10:00 – Twiggy Price & friends will have their Stall selling various Craft & Nepalese Artefacts throughout the day. \n10:30 to 12:00 – Mike Less will put on a variety of Games/Challenges with minor prizes or just a good laugh as your rewards. \n12:00 until it runs out – Gaby’s Dhal Bat available\, all proceeds going to ROFN. \n13:30 to 15:00 – More Games/Challenges by Mike Lees. \n08:00 to 18:00 – An Audio Visual film produced by John & Marion will be on a continual loop of Paul’s 7 Marathon’s+ over 7 days in June 2021\, to give you a flavour of what he & his various support runners are endeavouring to do out in the Ogwen Valley. We hope you enjoy the film & it can spur you to either join them at some point & or donate to the cause. \n18:30 – Last orders for hot food prior to the evening getting underway. \n19:00 – A short Film from Community Action Nepal (CAN) showing their Nepalese projects. \n19:10 – Auction in aid of ROFN\, please feel free to outbid your friends & others (more details below). \n19:20 – A short Audio Visual film produced by John Rowell & Marion Waine of Paul’s second attempt to run 100 Miles in 24 Hours in August 2020. A telling of the Ups & Downs of a very memorable Day in & around Capel Curig. \n19:30 – A short film of Doug Scott himself showing his ethos on both his climbing & charitable lives. \n19:50 – Planned completion of Paul’s 105 miles\, obviously there is a large element of doubt on this bit of the day. \n20:00 – Mikes Lees Quiz\, the lively & entertaining round-off to our ROFN Day\, duration approximately 2 hours with Drinks License & Cakes & snacks also available throughout. Quiz entry £2 per team member\, maximum 6 per team. \nPaul’s run details: It will see him attempt for the third time to run 100 Miles in 24 Hours (he has form in failing this with 95 miles in 2016 & a very traumatic 96 miles in 2020). Sadly for him there continues to be nothing flat around Capel Curig so he has opted for what he feels is the flattest 9still about 14\,500′ of ascent) & less technical option he can come up with a 10.45 miler to Tryfan & back. Normally a lovely training run into the depths of the Ogwen Valley but he’ll need to do it a gruelling 10 times with hopefully no falls. As always he would appreciate support runners throughout\, simply contact him through the Cafe if you are able to help. Of course Donations in support of him would be great\, donate via the Cafe counter or via our Just Giving page. If you are not a runner cheering on would still be a great way to help keep him going. The runs will start at Sunset on Friday 13th May. \nAuction Details: Among the items up for grabs will be – Our suppliers ‘hamper’\, various goodies from our suppliers including Meat\, Veg. DESCRIPTION:For obvious reasons & with regret we have postponed this years event indefinitely but please check Paul’s latest blogs to see if any relaxing of the lock down allows Paul’s running part to go ahead in some shape or form\, the Nepalese school work still needs help whatever our problems may be. \nWe are pleased to confirm this year’s charity event will be 16th May 2020. \nThis will be our 6th Year of fund raising since the Earthquake in April 2015\, more details of the day’s events will be published in early 2020. \nThe event will actually start on 15th May with Paul setting off on the first of 23 laps of Capel Curig in the hope of running 100 miles over 24 Hours to complete in time for Mike Lees Quiz/Auction the following evening.
